The original October deadline has been extended until Dec 31st.
A Fresh Start for Those with Expired Visas
If you’re living in the UAE with an expired tourist or residency visa and are worried about accumulating fines or uncertain next steps, the UAE’s overstay amnesty presents a valuable opportunity. Good news: if you missed the initial deadline of October 31st, the amnesty has now been extended until December 31st, according to Gulf News.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) has announced this extension, following the success of their previous five-month regularisation initiative in 2018, which saw over 105,000 people benefit from waived fines, lifted travel bans, and the issuance of departure permits.
UAE Visa Amnesty 2024
This new two-month amnesty will run from September 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, providing a four-month grace period for overstayers to regularise their status without incurring penalties.
Am I Eligible?
The ICP has confirmed that the amnesty applies to various visa categories, including expired residency and tourist visas, as well as undocumented individuals. However, those who entered the country illegally will not qualify for the amnesty.
What Are My Options?
You essentially have two paths: transfer your visa to a new sponsor to remain in the country legally, or exit the UAE without facing fines or a “no-entry” stamp.
On August 28, the ICP provided further details about the amnesty, clarifying how it operates and which violations are covered.
Is There a Cost?
The amnesty service is completely free of charge.
How Do I Apply for the Amnesty?
According to a report in The National:
- In Abu Dhabi, applications can be made at ICP centres located in Al Dhafra, Suwaihan, Al Maqam, and Al Shahama.
- In Dubai, you can access amnesty services at Amer service centres and the immigration violators centre in Al Awir.
Certain typing centres will also assist with your application.
Important Updates
The ICP has also specified that dependents with expired visas will have the opportunity to update their status. Those wishing to leave the country will receive a departure permit valid for 14 days. Additionally, extended opening hours will be available at Fingerprint Centers to accommodate applicants.
