With The Edition being cited as one of ‘The world’s hottest hotel brands,’ our expectations were high when arriving for a one-night staycation at its Dubai hotel. It’s safe to say, not only were our expectations met but exceeded at every step of the way; an unparalleled level of luxury across every guest touchpoint, from the décor to the food, the spa, facilities and beyond – all topped off with impeccable service.
I’d bet a high percentage of guests mutter ‘wow!’ when entering the hotel lobby. The modern elegance of the décor is striking, and very unique in comparison to other hotels in the Emirates. Neutral tones, greenery and ambient lighting create the perfect setting for the triple spiral staircase, a feature piece across the Edition brand. When we asked about the aroma we were informed that that was another consistency across the brand’s portfolio – its signature black tea scent which carries across the hotel.
The neutral colour scheme continues to the rooms and what’s great is that with the hotel being new, everything is powered by the latest technology and you don’t even have to get out of bed to open the curtains. And opening the curtains is where the modern simplicity becomes overshadowed by the breathtaking views of the Burj Khalifa. We only thought it was impressive until we watched the sunset in the evening from our balcony!
The pool and Thia lounge has the same unobstructed view with a mixture of sunbeds and cabanas to relax and soak up the sun. This is where our culinary journey started and whilst the menu isn’t expansive, what they do offer – they do very well. We went for the quesadillas, mini burgers and the chips with parmesan. These weren’t your standard poolside snacks – every bite packed a punch in terms of flavour.
Duomo is where we had dinner and honestly – we haven’t stopped talking about it since. The interior is inspired by the Piazza Del Duomo in Milan and feels high end and sophisticated with marble all around. We were enveloped in an ever-changing artistic display beneath 15 metre vaulted cathedral ceilings and so before we even got the food we were in awe. But the quality of the food took it to the next level.
We started with the Seabass Carpaccio and Burrata. Featuring notes of chilli, apple and mandarin, the carpaccio was full of flavour. The Burrata was wrapped in a tomato veil with balsamic and basil tucked inside ready to explode around the luscious, rich and creamycheese when cut open. One word – incredible.
For mains we went for the Salame Piccante pizza which tasted just like authentic Italian pizza, with a thin base and fresh ingredients. We also couldn’t pass up the chance to try the Tagliatelle Pasta with Seasonal Black Truffle which was amazing – not overpowering with the truffle and the right level of creaminess.
Of course, we had to end with the tiramisu for dessert. As expected 10/10, just like the service. The wait staff were very knowledgeable when it came to both the food and the beverages and it was lovely to meet the Italian chef behind the taste sensation we had just experienced.
When the weather cools down we expect the outdoor space will be in high demand with Burj Khalifa views, lighting and greenery all around. Even if you aren’t planning on staying in the hotel – we would highly recommend this for your next date night restaurant.
Breakfast was also in Duomo – and what was nice was that it was a la carte. Waking up to sit in grandeur, with no buffet queues, started the day off just right – chilled, relaxed and feeling grateful.
Talking of chilled and relaxed, we also experienced the Well Beings Spa with a 60 minutes couple massage. It was easy to tell our Balinese masseuses had years of experience, they knew exactly what they were doing – applying pressure in all the right places and smoothing out the knots from the working week. The facilities in the couples’ room included a sauna and steam room, something we hadn’t seen before, and we were glad to hear we could take as long as we needed to fully make the most of them.
The Dubai Edition is in the perfect location for sightseeing and shopping too, being directly beside the Dubai Mall and Fountains – if you can drag yourself away from the splendor of the hotel that is!
We have no doubt that there will be many return guests to the Dubai Edition, to stay and to dine. It has certainly left a lasting impression on us!
