Sheikh Zayed Road Closure Scheduled for 2 Days Next Month

Make sure you plan your travel carefully around the closure to avoid delays.

Dubai’s busiest highway Sheikh Zayed road will be closed to all motorists for two full days next month.

As the Dubai Fitness Challenge starts in November, on the 12th there’ll be the Dubai Ride, for cyclists with all abilities to race around the city streets.

After that is the Dubai Run on November 26th which will be the second closure, as amateur and professional runners hit the tarmac in the competition.

The exact timings for the two closures will be announced by the Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) and they will share the full details nearer the event dates.

Fortunately the Dubai Metro will be staying operational, so if you have work or leisure planned in the area, or you want to watch the races, you can get public transport easily.

Both the Dubai Run and the Dubai Rise are free to enter and offer a unique opportunity to run and/or cycle along Sheikh Zayed Road. The Dubai Run is a 5km route around the Burj Khalifa, Museum of the Future and Dubai Opera, finally ending near the Dubai Mall. There’s also a longer 10km route which includes the Dubai Canal and finishes near DIFC.

For the Dubai Ride, there’s a family-friendly 4km route through Downtown Dubai or a 12km ride going past the Museum of the Future, Al Satwa, Coca-Cola Arena and Lower Financial Street.

Expect closures to be similar to last year, with both directions from Trade Centre Roundabout to the 2nd Interchange off-limits to motorists. Lower Financial Centre Street and the Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard Road were also closed.

To sign up to the dubaifitnesschallenge registration on their website is now open.
