Plans for a AED 786 Million Bridge in Dubai Are Officially Approved

Here’s what you need to know.
Get ready for smoother journeys across Dubai Creek! The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has greenlit an ambitious plan for a state-of-the-art, eight-lane bridge that will transform travel in the city.
Set to cost a whopping AED 786 million, this new 1,425-metre bridge will connect Dubai Islands to Bur Dubai, offering a vital route that will ease traffic congestion and cut down travel times. With four lanes in each direction, the bridge will accommodate 16,000 vehicles per hour, benefiting around one million people.
But that’s not all—this project goes above and beyond, with dedicated cycling and pedestrian paths, plus elevators to make it accessible for everyone.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, explained, “The Dubai Islands access bridge is a key part of the larger Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project, one of RTA’s most important ongoing initiatives. This major project includes the development of 15 intersections over 13 kilometres and is being rolled out in five phases.”
Once completed, the entire corridor will drastically slash travel times—what once took 104 minutes will now only take 16 minutes, saving an estimated Dhs45 billion over the next 20 years.
This project will not only serve the Deira and Bur Dubai areas but will also improve access to key developments like Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid, directly benefiting residents, visitors, and commuters across the emirate.
Stay tuned for further updates as construction begins on what’s set to be a game-changer for Dubai’s transport network.
