Be warned that an extra dash to make the yellow light can land you in trouble. Motorists in Ras Al Khaimah, caught driving through a red light will face an Dhs 1,000 fine, followed by 12 black traffic points, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.
The announcement was made by the Ras Al Khaimah Traffic and Patrols department, as part of their awareness efforts on the extreme dangers of crossing a red light.
The force also referred to Law No. 5 of 2020, which orders vehicle impoundment in case a motorist jumps a red light.
The authority had launched a traffic awareness campaign this year, ‘Jumping the red light is extremely dangerous’, as part of the Ministry of Interior’s strategy for the traffic sector.
It has also been reported that in Abu Dhabi the cost to release your car from the impound can be as severe as Dhs 51,000.
