Travel Advice after Emirates Airline Power Outage
A worldwide travel outage caused chaos impacting banking and healthcare too.
After the July 19th outage, many flights have been grounded, cancelled, or delayed, leading to long queues at airports.
In the UAE, Etihad Airways and Emirates are still operating as normal but have warned passengers travelling on Friday, July 19th, to expect minor delays.
An Emirates spokesperson told Gulf News, “We are aware of the global IT disruption and are monitoring the situation closely.”
Etihad Airways also confirmed to Gulf News that it has continued to operate normally since the disruption.
While there hasn’t been an immediate effect on flights from these airlines, passengers might experience some delays due to disruptions at other airports.
If you’re travelling today or have a connecting flight, keep a close eye on your airline’s website, app, or social media for updates on your travel schedule.
Earlier this month, Etihad announced it’s increasing its flight frequency from Boston to Abu Dhabi from four flights a week to a daily service.
Since launching the route in March 2024, this move is perfect for both corporate and leisure travellers looking to explore Boston or for Bostonians eager to visit the Middle East.
The daily flights are strategically timed for seamless connections to Etihad’s extensive network, making it easier than ever for Bostonians to reach destinations across the UAE, the Gulf region, and 11 nonstop routes into India. Plus, thanks to Etihad’s partnership with JetBlue, exploring North America has never been simpler.
One of the coolest new perks? The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility at Zayed International Airport. This means you clear US immigration and customs before boarding, so when you land, you can just grab your bags and go. It’s the only CBP facility in the Middle East.
Over at Dubai International Airport (DXB), Emirates is keeping its passengers cool and refreshed with free ice cream every weekend until Sunday, July 28th.
To grab your free cone or lolly, just be travelling through Dubai International Airport, specifically Terminal 3. Look out for the big red striped carts between midday and 6 pm, every Friday to Sunday.
