Chanel Pays Homage To the Iconic N°5 Perfume With a Dedicated High Jewellery Collection

Chanel Celebrates Its Centenary of the N°5 Perfume With the First Ever High Jewellery Collection Dedicated To a Fragrance.

For a century, the Chanel N°5 perfume has been one of the most renowned fragrances of all time,

and now its status is immortalised in a High Jewellery collection solely dedicated to this olfactory masterpiece.

In paying homage to the success of the N°5 perfume, Patrice Leguéreau, director of the Chanel Fine Jewellery Creation Studio, reimagined the iconic fragrance as an exquisite diamond jewellery collection titled: Collection N°5. It comprises 123 pieces of diamonds and puts the spotlight on the aesthetic codes of the famous bottle.

Before we delve into the High Jewellery collection, let’s revisit the origins of the perfume. Created by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel and perfumer Ernest Beaux, this is the first “perfume for women with the scent of a woman”. It features a harmonious blend of florals featuring jasmine, ylang-ylang and rose with sensual base notes of sandalwood, vanilla and musk. Over the years, its scent is a favourite amongst Hollywood’s brightest stars like Marilyn Monroe, Nicole Kidman and Jessica Alba.

“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” — Coco Chanel

Moving on to Collection N°5 proper, the crowning glory would no doubt be the 55.55 necklace that proudly exhibits a custom-cut 55.55-carat diamond set in an 18-carat white gold bezel. “We started with a rough diamond that we had cut, not to make the biggest stone possible, but to obtain a perfect octagonal diamond weighing 55.55 carats,” says Leguéreau. Aficionados of the N°5 perfume will be quick to notice that the diamond centrepiece reflects the octagonal stopper of the perfume bottle, which itself is as iconic as the scent.

Surrounding the flawless custom-cut diamond are more than 100 other round and baguette-shaped diamonds that showcase Chanel’s exceptional levels of creation and mastery beyond their clothes and accessories. The clasp is also shaped in the lucky number 5.

According to the press release, Chanel will keep the necklace 55.55 in its Patrimoine allowing this resplendent piece to forever be a part of Chanel’s High Jewellery history, and “constitute an eternal and visible symbol of the unfailing links that unite Place Vendome and the N°5 perfume.”
