A long weekend is officially on the horizon, with public and private sector workers set to enjoy December 1st and 2nd off.
The UAE has officially confirmed the public holiday dates for Eid Al Etihad, the nationwide celebration previously known as UAE National Day and Union Day. With December fast approaching, residents now have clarity on when the long weekend begins (hint, you’re going to love the result).
According to the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, both Monday, December 1st and Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, will be public holidays for employees across the public and private sectors. Work will resume on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025. That means a whopping four day weekend for many.
The announcement was initially released for government employees, before the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation confirmed the same break for private-sector workers, giving the entire country a unified two-day holiday.

What is Eid Al Etihad?
The occasion formerly known as National Day, and later Union Day, has been officially renamed Eid Al Etihad, adopting a more authentic Arabic expression that better reflects the spirit of the celebration. Translating to “festival of the Union,” the new name underscores the unity, pride and heritage that define the UAE’s identity. Expect flags, festivities and nationwide celebrations marking the founding of the nation.
Where to Watch the Fireworks
As always, the holiday comes with an impressive line-up of events, including multiple fireworks displays across Dubai. Visitors and residents can expect dazzling shows at:
- Festival Bay (Dubai Festival City)
- Global Village
- The Beach, JBR
In addition to fireworks, the city will host family-friendly celebrations at Expo City Dubai, Dubai Parks and Resorts, Al Seef, and more, with full schedules expected to be released closer to the date.
