Dine Out for Less – Abu Dhabi to Cut its Hotel and Restaurant Fees

In an attempt to foster investment in the hospitality sector, the Department of Culture and Tourism in the Capital have slashed various fees.

Those living in Abu Dhabi or travelling there regularly can take advantage of the soon to be lesser fees for dining out in restaurants or staying in hotels. As way to enhance the emirate as a “leading global leisure and tourism destination”, the change in fees will come into effect in September 2023, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office.

This move has been to support the continued growth of the hospitality and tourism sector, as well as increasing the city’s reputation as a leading destination for international travel, trips and vacations.

As per the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the government fee amendments include a reduction in tourism fee issued to guests from six per cent to four per cent. Guests will no longer have to pay the municipality fee of Dhs15 per room per night. Not only that, but if you’re dining in the hotel’s restaurants then the municipality tax of six percent and four percent municipality fee will also be removed.

However, they have also confirmed that the municipality fee of four percent of the total value of the invoice issued to customers will continue. Furthermore, hotels and entities within the hospitality industry are bound to follow these new measures, and failure to do so could result in legal action.

This is excellent news for residents and tourists alike, as there are some new attractions opening in Abu Dhabi in the final quarter of this year, including Surf Abu Dhabi, and the development of Jubail Island. On top of that, we have the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to look forward to, with artists such as Robbie Williams and Charlie Puth, plus the upcoming Disney on Ice and the prestigious Liwa Festival. It might be time to revisit the delights of the capital city.
