El Scorchio! When will the Summer Temp Finally Cool Down?

This summer has been a belter and the current weather is distressingly humid, but don’t despair, because cooler weather is coming soon…

If you’re stuck in DXB over the long hot summer and dreaming of cooler temperatures, don’t worry because they’re en route as soon as mid-August with the sighting of the Suhail Star predicted on August 24th.

This star typically appears in the second half of August every year and is significant because it symbolises cooler weather finally arriving in the desert and the end of summer – according to local folklore at any rate.

According to Ibrahim Al-Jarwan, the chairman of the board of directors of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, the star should be visible in the UAE in the last week of August.

If you want to see the Suhail star you can do some from the Arabian Peninsula from Thursday August 24th – this means that the heat will finally cool down from this period! The Chairman added the autumn equinox will start at the beginning of September and astronomically should fall on September 23rd, 2023.

Fun Fact:

The Suhail star is the second brightest star in the sky and is 27 million years old, and 310 light years away from Earth. It comes second only after Sirius from the constellation Canis Major.

Don’t get your hopes up just yet though, as we have a few weeks before the temperature decreases. In the meantime, check out our best pool and beach party deals over the summer to keep you cool in the heat.
