UAE Updates National Emergency Alert System

Stay safe as there are new sound settings depending on the time of day.

We’ve all been kept aware of the ongoing situation by the government’s safety alerts transmitted via mobile phones, but there’s an updated version that will now reflect the time of day.

Country-wide residents will notice a change to the country’s national emergency alert system following the recent update, according to the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA).

The update aims to maintain the effectiveness of the alert system while reducing potential disruption during the nighttime hours when most of the city sleeps.

How the updated alert system will work

Under the revised system, the emergency alert tone will vary depending on the time of day.

Between 9am and 10.30pm, alerts will continue to use the current high-pitched warning tone. A standard text message notification sound will then signal the end of the alert.

Between 10.30pm and 9am, both the alert and the closing notification will use a standard text message tone.

The adjustment is designed to ensure that emergency messages continue to reach the public while taking into account quieter night-time hours and not disrupted sleep patterns.

System remains up and running

Authorities emphasised that the early warning system will remain active at all times and continues to play a critical role in the UAE’s national preparedness framework, so the UAE community to stay safe, and aware at all times.

The alerts are designed to provide timely information during emergencies or situations requiring public awareness.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to carefully read and follow any instructions included in the alerts to ensure their safety.

In a statement, NCEMA reiterated the importance of the system, noting that public cooperation is essential when alerts are issued.

As an essential component of the national preparedness framework, the system ensures timely alerts. The public is urged to follow official instructions issued with any alert to ensure safety. Your safety remains our priority.

The change comes after a series of alerts were recently issued to devices across the UAE to provide residents and visitors with updated guidance relating to the ongoing regional situation.

The system will continue to be closely monitored and updated when necessary to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the public, according to public officials.
