Life’s a Beach: Three Night Swimming Beaches Now Open

Dubai Announces Three New Beach Openings for Night Swimming

Dubai residents can now enjoy a spot of night swimming at three new beaches, authorities announce. Even when the lifeguards typically pack up their kit to go home for the night, swimmers can enjoy a dusk lit paddle and even continue on into the night hours.

The 800-metre night swimming beaches have opened up at Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, and Umm Suqeim 1. Night guards are now on duty with new bright light systems that allow them to monitor swimmers, and there are giant electric display messages that spread awareness for beachgoers.

The qualified life guards also have state-of-the-art rescue equipment in case something goes wrong, and their duty will be from sunset until sunrise – so whatever time you have a quick dip you’ll be in good hands.

Dawoud Al Hajri, director-general of Dubai Municipality said: “The new facilities will further raise Dubai’s status as a beach tourism destination. Dubai Municipality will continue to develop the emirate’s picturesque beaches into some of the city’s most compelling outdoor attractions. “The emirate’s wide diversity of beaches, each with its own unique charm, provide people the opportunity to enjoy vibrant seaside dining and diverse activities. The beaches are key attractions that form part of Dubai’s unique tourism, lifestyle and leisure proposition for residents and visitors.”

Beachgoers are still advised to practise safety and cleanliness at all times, as well as staying in the designated zones, and respecting local cultures and traditions. While night swimming represents a relaxing of certain customs in the UAE, it’s still not the same as a lads’ holiday in Ibiza, so post-club skinny dipping is not recommended.
