Baywatch Meets Robots – Dubai’s Beaches Just Got a Futuristic Glow-Up

Meet the rescue robots and flying lifebuoys keeping swimmers safer than ever.

Dubai doesn’t do anything halfway and now, not even beach safety.

The city has unveiled a next-gen rescue system featuring aquatic robots and water-rescue drones, and honestly, it’s giving Baywatch… but make it futuristic.

Faster than your best freestyle

At the centre of it all is a high-speed aquatic rescue robot that can move up to five times faster than a human swimmer. So while you’re still deciding whether to paddle or panic, this thing is already on its way.

Remote-controlled and built for rougher sea conditions, it can tow up to 500kg, meaning it’s not just quick, it’s seriously capable. Think less “lifeguard sprint” and more “precision rescue mission”.

The new rescue robot can tow up to 500kg.

Enter: the flying lifebuoy

Yes, Dubai now has drones that literally save lives.

Often dubbed a “flying lifebuoy”, these water-rescue drones can be deployed in seconds, fly straight to the scene and land on the water to support swimmers in distress. Casual.

They’re also equipped with live-feed cameras, giving lifeguards real-time visuals so they can assess situations faster and coordinate rescues with way more accuracy.

Basically, it’s eyes in the sky with a serious safety upgrade.

Dubai’s lifeguards have a little help from their new robot friends.

A smarter way to stay safe

Together, the robots and drones form part of a wider tech-powered beach safety network, working alongside trained lifeguards and centralised monitoring systems.

The result? Faster response times, wider coverage and a much more efficient way to handle emergencies especially when beaches are packed.

Where you’ll see them

The rollout covers some of Dubai’s busiest public beaches, including:

  • Umm Suqeim 1 Night Beach
  • Jumeirah 3 Night Beach
  • Jumeirah 1 Beach
  • Jumeirah 2 Beach
  • Al Mamzar Beach

So next time you head down for a swim, just know there’s a robot, a drone and a lifeguard all low-key keeping an eye on you. All you need is your beachbag and sunnies.
