A Vision of the Future – New Drive Through Mall Set to Open

Dubai has long been the centre for innovation so it’s no surprise that an incredible new drive-through mall is slated to open in Dubai Creek Harbour.

Dubai continues to push the boundaries of innovation with the unveiling of Dubai Square, a groundbreaking retail and entertainment mall set to redefine the shopping experience. Part of the vast Dubai Creek Harbour mega project, covering 7.4 million square metres, Dubai Square will introduce a novel concept – a drive-through shopping mall where visitors can navigate the space in electric cars.

Connected to the iconic Dubai Creek Tower, this futuristic endeavour is designed to provide a unique and immersive shopping adventure. Mohammed Alabbar, the founder of Emaar, shared this exciting development at the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival (SEF) 2024, stating, “This will be the first time cars can enter a mall, so it will be very unique. We did not come up with this ourselves; we learned it from somewhere.”

Dubai Square’s drive-through feature adds another layer to the city’s impressive list of pioneering concepts, making it a destination where innovation and luxury seamlessly intersect.

The Dubai Square mall is on a mission to redefine the retail landscape by setting a new standard in shopping experiences. Beyond the traditional, it will incorporate groundbreaking technologies such as AI, offering visitors an immersive journey with innovative dining, entertainment, and retail concepts.

In parallel, the Dubai Creek Tower, initially intended to be a monumental architectural feat in the Dubai Creek Harbour masterplan, faced a redesign. Originally proposed to surpass the Burj Khalifa in height, reaching a minimum of 1,300 metres, the tower is now undergoing adjustments. Mohammed Alabbar revealed that the redesigned tower would be smaller than initially planned, no longer surpassing the Burj Khalifa in height.

He explained, “Everybody wants to have an apartment in Paris overlooking the Eiffel Tower, right? So we said ‘listen, our buildings are only 50 storeys tall, why do we have to build something one kilometre tall?’ We changed our minds and we redesigned. In the coming months, we will show the tower. I think we did something like male and female [towers], so Burj Khalifa will be the male and Creek Tower will be the female.”

The redesigned Dubai Creek Tower, along with the innovative Dubai Square, is set to continue Dubai’s legacy of architectural brilliance and forward-thinking design.
