Overstayed Your Visa? Here’s How to Get Fines Removed

A chance to fix your financial status with immigration.

Starting next month, a visa amnesty period will give UAE residents with expired visas and overstay fines a chance to sort things out without incurring penalties.

From September 1st to October 31st, 2024, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP) is offering a two-month grace period for residents to regularise their status.

During this time, individuals with visa overstays can either update their visa status, switch to a new sponsor, or leave the country without facing fines or a “no-entry” stamp.

The ICP’s announcement on Thursday stated: “The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) aims to provide a new chance for violators to regularise their status in line with the UAE’s values of compassion and tolerance.”

Visa Overstay Fines: As of November 2022, overstay fines are a fixed Dhs50 per day for both tourist and resident visas. Previously, tourist visa fines were Dhs100 per day, so the new rate represents a 50% reduction. For expired residency visas, which used to accrue Dhs25 per day, the fine has now doubled.
