It’s been officially announced that the Dubai Metro Blue Line is approved and under construction with a whopping 30km of railway line. It will also join the Red and Green Lines.
Sheikh Mohammed confirmed the project on X, stating: “The Blue Line Route of the Dubai Metro… (will) cost 18 billion dirhams. And covers areas with a population of up to a million people such as Marsa. Dubai Creek, Festival City, International City, Al Rashidiya, Al Warqa, Mirdif, and urban areas such as Silicon Oasis, Academic City, and others. The new line will transport 320,000 new passengers daily.”
Unlike the current metro lines, the Blue Line will feature 15.5km of underground and 14.5km of above ground train line. There will also be 14 stations, seven of which will be elevated while the remaining five will be underground.
Meanwhile the RTA has issued a notice for a tender seeking interest from contractors who want to be involved in the design and build. Although it’s in the early stages, it will be an exciting addition to Dubai’s transport links.
