Action packed Boom Battle Bar brunch could be a hard axe to follow !

A phrase that used to pop up on the more daring of TV British shows of yesteryear springs to mind at Boom Battle Bar: “Don’t try this at home.”
Thankfully, the exuberant Dubai venue exists so you don’t have to throw axes in the confines of your apartment or villa.

Said activity is one of a few that comprise an alternative games experience at this JBR gem that keeps you active while you imbibe.
Brandishing a shiny axe midway through a Saturday afternoon isn’t regular brunch behaviour, it has to be said. But the just relaunched Big Boom Brunch is not your usual weekend gathering.
The venue has established itself at the heart of a thriving ‘competitive socialising’ scene since arriving in Dubai a couple of years ago.
Think games such as augmented reality darts, the suitably-named ‘crazier’ golf, private karaoke, and axe throwing – all with a vibrant party atmosphere in a resto-bar setting.
The brave but brilliant Boom Battle Bar concept began life in London’s Oxford Street and has since added numerous branches across the UK.

The flourishing brand opened its first international outpost at DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai, Jumeirah Beach, bringing with it a dynamic entertainment bar destination on the site of lamented alt-clubbing venue Stereo Arcade.
The spirit of the latter is embodied in and taken up a notch by Boom Battle Bar which pairs popular games with a perky, fun-soaked social bar vibe.
Now this bold and bouncy venue has restored one of Dubai’s favourite weekend past-times into its regular offering…and the pairing makes a lot of sense.
Happening each Saturday, 1pm-4pm, those bouts of neon-infused beer/prosecco pong, basketball and shuffleboard are enhanced with a menu of street food favourites and drinks packages that include adult beverages.

And with a DJ armed with one of the coolest sets these ears have caught at brunch in a while – think old school and current RnB tunes plus Afro Beats – you’ve got one of the more compelling over-21s weekend fixtures.
Food is sharing menu style and features a selection of feelgood bites, mains, and dessert options.
The former ranges from meaty treats to assorted vegetarian options, including generously loaded nachos, commendable panko prawns, battered cauliflower, halloumi sticks, and fries.
Mains are a mix of pulled beef sliders with smoked cheese, rocket and truffle mayo, fried chicken, plus veggie sliders or three flatbread options, with a choice of either plant- or beast-based toppings.
Sweet treats are also a sharing scenario and currently include an indulgent chocolate brownie and ice-cream combo.
Overall, Big Boom Brunch is a cunning sensory blend, integrating an entertainment ‘battleground’ with sociable brunch packages to further revolutionise the concept of competitive socialising.
Not every brunch has to be about haute cuisine and the finest champagne, after all.
But these gatherings should be about laughing with friends, partners or family – which is what Big Boom Brunch nails with crowd-pleasing plates served by efficient, friendly staff.
It’s also an experience which can actually burn off some of those brunch calories in the process…take it from someone whose core muscles ached after attempting far too many hoops against some handy fellow brunchers.
Add into that Boom Box Karaoke, and this a truly fun spot for a work outing, a get-together with friends, or simply something different to get yourself out of the weekend heat.
The venue also has a date night offering for those couples looking for an axe to grind.
